Guillotine cutting

Guillotine cutting is the simplest and most economically advantageous method for cutting sheet metal and producing parts and blanks. Guillotine cutting is one of the types of mechanical cutting of metal with a single cut, which means a straight cut. It only creates parts with straight edges, but with different shapes – rectangle, triangle, square, rhombus, trapezoid.

The main components of the construction of the working machine are the pair of knives (upper and lower), which make a linear cut in the sheet metal in one move – just like scissors, – a clamping device, and a graduated limiter. The knives are mounted at the top and bottom of the machine, with the lower knife remaining motionless while the upper one descends to the material, after the start of the process, under high pressure and with great force. With their help, a metal sheet can be cut with an accuracy of 0.5 to 2 mm, depending on its thickness. The guillotines work both with sheets and with roll material.

Based on the drive used, the following machines are distinguished:

  •  – Mechanical
  •  – Hydraulic
  •  – Pneumatic
  •  – Electromechanical

In large enterprises, more often used are the pneumatic and hydraulic machines, which combine cost-effective operation and high productivity. Guillotine shears ensure high accuracy and minimal material loss. The edge obtained as a result of the operation does not have slits, injuries, or overheating in the shear zone. The polymer or painted coating on the processed metal sheet is not damaged.

Angel Stoilov – 96 JSC has the following machines for guillotine cutting:

Baykal HGL 3100 x 16

Working range of the cut:

– Black steels: up to 16 mm
– Wear-resistant: up to 6 mm (up to type 400)
– Stainless steel: up to 15 mm (depending on the brand)
– Aluminum: up to 16 mm
– Brass: up to 12 mm
– Maximum cutting length: up to 3,100 mm
– Minimum size of the cut depends on the thickness of the sheet metal.
